If you need a full-arch restoration for the lower arch (mandibular), we may recommend the trefoil. Trefoil is a relatively new treatment concept developed by Nobel Biocare, the industry leader in implant solutions. What Is Trefoil?Trefoil is the latest development in full-arch implant solutions. This system has proven to be an effective alternative to Nobel’s most common restoration, the All-on-4® Treatment Concept. Instead of four implants, the Trefoil process involves placing three dental implants and a titanium bar. Trefoil may be the ideal solution if you need a full-arch replacement in the mandibular or lower jaw. Many of our patients find the lower treatment cost and shorter treatment time very appealing. We usually recommend the Trefoil concept as an advantageous alternative to removable or implant-retained dentures. The Trefoil ProcessAs with any treatment, the Trefoil process begins with a consultation appointment. During your consultation, Dr. Kevin Hintz will perform a thorough examination that typically includes digital x-rays and a 3D CT scan. Once we determine that you are a suitable candidate for Trefoil, we can begin treatment planning. Much like All-on-4, Trefoil only involves one oral surgery. Before we begin your surgery, we will use a local anesthetic to numb the area and eliminate pain. We also offer several sedation techniques to provide a more comfortable experience. During your surgery, we will make three small incisions in the gum tissue to expose the underlying bone. Next, we will place the implants. We use 3D technology and guided surgery techniques to ensure the precise placement of each implant and maximize support. Once the implants are in place, we will attach the titanium bar, a custom framework that ensures the success of your restoration. The prosthetic teeth are usually placed within one week of your implant surgery. Your restoration will be fabricated in our laboratory using an impression of your mouth. Most Trefoil restorations are made with porcelain or zirconia due to superior durability and aesthetics.
